    Playa del Carmen

The ruins of Tulum, which in Mayan means “wall”, are one of the most popular visits in the Riviera Maya. His remains are located on the shores of the Caribbean, within an area declared a national park and very close to the Catalonia Royal Tulum - Adults Only hotel. To the west of Tulum we find the ruins of Cobá, also of important value for having the tallest Mayan pyramid in Yucatán. Another essential is the Chichén Itzá complex, where the famous pyramid dedicated to the god Kukulkan and declared a World Heritage Site in 1988 is located. In the northern region we find Puerto Morelos, which is home to the Arrecife National Park on its coasts. In this natural barrier, the practice of water sports such as diving or windsurfing is allowed.

The most populated and cosmopolitan area of the Riviera Maya is Playa del Carmen, close to our Playa Maroma hotel. Its streets full of shops, such as Fifth Avenue, and its urban beaches are famous. You can also visit the old fishing village and the small Frida Khalo museum, with reproductions of some works by the most famous Mexican painter in the world.

Traveling south, 15 minutes from Playa del Carmen is the high-end tourist complex Puerto Aventuras, where the Catalonia Riviera Maya hotel and the Catalonia Yucatán Beach hotel are located. In both all-inclusive resorts you will have great services and facilities, such as golf courses, tennis clubs, wellness spaces and shopping centers.

If you like to explore the sea, we recommend going to Akumal, where you can swim with sea turtles and bathe in the turquoise waters of the Yalkú lagoon. A few kilometers away you will discover the Aktun Chén cenotes, with stalactites and stalagmites inside.

On the other hand, in the Yucatan Peninsula you can taste some Mexican dishes that will surprise your palate. Likewise, any of our hotels in Riviera Maya offers you a wide selection of local and international products in the many themed restaurants within the same resort.
